Kirsti Rooks

I have enjoyed teaching since 1993.  I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a minor in History from Our Lady of the Elms College (Chicopee, MA) in May, 1993.  I have had the pleasure of teaching in five different states while my husband settled into his career. 

I have a wide range of experience teaching in both public and private schools.  I have taught Preschool through Eighth grades, and substitute taught for 8 years.  Nine years of my teaching experience was in Preschool, Kindergarten or First Grade.

I enjoy traveling and learning about education in different parts of the country and the world.  I have had opportunities to travel through 35 of our great states, 3 of the Canadian Provinces, England, Wales, Scotland, the Virgin Isands and the Bahamas.

I enjoy learning about different approaches to education as well as how the brain works and learns.  I believe education should be an exciting, hands on opportunity for children.

My main areas of volunteering the last few years have been related to my children.  I have volunteered in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and at their schools with various activities as well as chairing the Goodwill Jr. Club for 2 years. 

Goodwill Jr. Club is an afterschool activity for students to learn more about, and have an opportunity each month to, volunteer thier time to make another's life happier.

For four and a half years I was the Chairman and Den Leader in my son's Cub Scout Pack.  In recognition of my service, spearheading the rejuvination and growth of our pack from 14 to 36 members, I was awarded the 2011 Cub Scouter of the Year award from the Greater Niagara Frontier Council.

I have also helped my daughter's Brownie Troop as the Cookie Mom, Camping Mom and Nature & Craft consultant.
